This course is thoughtfully designed for those who are committed and eager to learn Kathak in a creative, supportive environment. Whether you’re completely new to Kathak, returning after a break, or simply curious about this classical art form - this course is for you. 

 

Over the span of three months, you’ll build a strong foundation in posture, footwork, hand movements, and more. Each class is structured with clear goals and supported by worksheets, audio, and learning resources - so you can grow with clarity, confidence, and without the pressure of exams.To mark the end of the course, we’ll host a relaxed in-class performance to celebrate your journey. You’ll also receive a certificate of completion, and select learners will be invited to join my regular Kathak training batch.

Open to complete beginners - college students, working professionals, homemakers, retirees - anyone with a love for movement and storytelling.

About the Mentor

Kathak dancer, choreographer, educator and a dance filmmaker Sugandh Lamba is one of the emerging and leading performers in contemporary Indian classical dance. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Movement Stories - a contemporary kathak dance company. A post graduate in Kathak from Pryaag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, Sugandh has had the privilege of studying under legendary gurus, Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj and Kumudini Lakhia, cultivating a deep and enduring artistry in her work.

This foundation class will equip you with the essential tools and techniques of Kathak through creative and innovative methods. Don't miss the chance to enhance your skills and express yourself through this dance form.

Course Timeline

Month 1

  • Introduction to posture

  • Footwork (Tatkar)

  • 4 foundational Hastaks (hand movements)

 

Month 2

  • 2 types of chakkars (pirouettes)

  • Diagonals and space work

 

Month 3​

  • 1 Kavita (poetic choreography)

  • In-class performance

 

Additional Skills:

  • Embodying sound

  • Focus, breathing & body balance

  • Rhythm awareness
